JAFRREY — A three-year-old child run over by a vehicle in a Jaffrey street and was flown to a Mass. hospital Sunday afternoon.

The Jaffrey Fire Department was called to Carey Road in Jaffrey on Sunday around 12:44 p.m. when it was reported a three-year-old child had been run over by a motor vehicle, the Jaffrey Fire Department said in a news release Sunday afternoon.

A Jaffrey fire unit along with Jaffrey Assistant Fire Chief Dupuis responded and arrived around 12:47 p.m. After a quick assessment emergency workers determined the child had suffered lower extremity and possibly abdominal injuries.

A medical helicopter from Dartmouth-Hitchcock was dispatched along with a paramedic from Peterborough Fire and Rescue.

The child was taken by the Peterborough Ambulance to the helipad at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough to meet the medical helicopter and from there was flown to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for further treatment.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Jaffrey Police Department and further information will be released by police tomorrow. The patient was treated on scene by personnel from Jaffrey Fire and Rescue, Jaffrey Ambulance and Peterborough Ambulance.
