SURRY — A Vermont man was hospitalized in critical condition following a crash on Route 12 Saturday.
Troopers from New Hampshire State Police-Troop C responded to Route 12 in Surry Saturday around 2:28 a.m. for a single vehicle crash.
The name of the 27-year-old Vermont man is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin, state police said Monday.
The man had been driving a Buick Century northbound on Route 12 when the Buick left the roadway and struck multiple trees.
The Buick as heavily damage and came to rest in the tree line facing south, with the operator pinned in the driver’s seat.
“The operator was extricated from the vehicle, and transported via ground to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. Due to his severe injuries the operator was then transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center where he remains in critical condition,” state police said.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, however, speed and alcohol are factors, state police said, adding that charges against the driver, including aggravated DWI, are forthcoming.
